Cosmos respond to reports of a friendly with Santos

501px-santos_fc_logo-svgThe New York Cosmos have a postseason match in their immediate future with a possible NASL Final a week after, but fans are beginning to look at what the offseason could bring.

One of those things might be a friendly with famed Brazilian club Santos, former home of Cosmos legend Pelé.

According to a report from GloboEsporte, two clubs could face off for a January 2017 match in Miami, featuring the attendance of the Brazilian legend who played for both. The Brazilian side would use the match as a tune-up ahead of Copa Libertadores.

However, according to the Cosmos, it may not be the done deal that reports of the friendly have indicated.

“We are in talks but nothing has been finalized,” a Cosmos spokesperson told TICC today.

2016 was the first year the Cosmos did not leave the US for an international preseason friendly after previous years saw trips made to places like England, the UAE, Hong Kong, El Salvador, and Cuba.

They did travel to Las Vegas in May, winning in penalties against La Liga side Eibar SD.
