With the departure of Niko Kranjčar, the Cosmos were back down to seven international players on the roster. Today, they are down to six.
Spanish defender Ayoze has received a green card, re-classifying him as a domestic player and freeing up an international spot for the New York side.
The full back has been a member of the club since February 2013, a part of both NASL titles in the Modern Era. Ayoze made 30 NASL appearances last season, missing only two starts and has started all ten NASL matches so far in 2016.
This is the second time we’ve heard of a player on the team receiving a green card while on the roster, the first being El Salvador international Andres Flores.
The move leaves only six internationals remaining on the New York Cosmos roster: David Ochieng, Yohandry Orozo, Juan Arango, Yasmani Duk, Ruben Bover, and Roversio.
