Giovanni Savarese continues his task of rebuilding the New York Cosmos and, to that end, has re-signed two additional players. Defender Jimmy Mulligan and goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck rejoin the team for the 2017 season.

“I’m very pleased to see another two players returning to the team,” said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director Savarese in a press release. “With [Carlos] Mendes, [David] Ochieng and [Ryan] Richter already on the roster, we are starting to build up our defense as we look to start our 2017 campaign.”

Mulligan started 12 of 14 appearances for the club last year, logging 1,108 minutes. The former St. John’s University captain opened the 2016 season on loan to Swope Park Rangers of USL starting 16 of 17 appearances and playing 1,432 minutes before being recalled in late July.

“New York is my home so I’m very happy to be returning to the Cosmos as we look to defend our title,” said Mulligan.

Zobeck has also been with the club since 2014, primarily serving as a backup to Jimmy Maurer. He made one appearance in 2016, a loss in Indy, and has made six appearances for the club overall.

“I’m really looking forward to get back to work,” commented Kyle Zobeck. “We’ve only got a couple of months until the season starts but we’ll be ready.”

At the time of writing, the Cosmos have signed seven players for 2017. All players have been defensive in nature, on the back line, at holding mid or in goal.
