As we reported last night, Jimmy Ockford has rejoined the Cosmos from the Seattle Sounders, his second loan from Seattle to New York in three seasons.
“His energy and competitiveness make him a great option for us defensively,” Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese said of Ockford. “Jimmy fit in well with this team a couple seasons ago, and we’re happy to have him back at the club.”
Ockford spent 2014 with the Cosmos making seven starts and ten appearances overall. He knocked in two goals in the regular season, adding another goal in three appearances in the US Open Cup.
Upon his return to Seattle, he found it difficult to find minutes with the first team. He managed only one appearance, a full match, with the MLS side, making another 14 with Seattle Sounders FC 2.
The 23-year-old center back will look to compete for time with familiar faces like Carlos Mendes and Roversio and new ones like David Ochieng.
“I learned so much here in my first pro season,” said Ockford. “Having an opportunity to return to the Cosmos is tremendous. I can’t wait to reunite with the players and coaches.”
