The Cosmos officially announced the signing of Andrea Mancini today. The 24-year-old midfielder joins from DC United, although he has spent over a month training with the Cosmos and attending matches. The player occupies the final international spot the Cosmos had available.
“Andrea is a young player with good experience,” said Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese. “He has shown great dedication in training and he will add depth to the team as we push for a strong finish to the season.”
The son of Roberto Mancini and a product of the Inter Milan and Manchester City academies, Andrea most recently faced NASL competition as part of DC United in a penalty shoot-out loss to the Strikers in the US Open Cup.
“I’ve been training with the team for quite a few weeks and I really enjoy the coaching style and atmosphere,” commented Mancini. “I’m focused on helping the team at this important time in the season,” he added.
Mancini has spent time among a number of clubs, released from Inter Milan and Manchester City. He has also spent time at Real Valladolid B in Spain, and Budapest Honvéd and Szombathely in Hungary.
TICC first spotted the player training with the Cosmos back on August 4th and recently reported a sighting of him apparently looking for housing in the New York City area.
