The hero of the Soccer Bowl, Gaston Cellerino, is now being linked to Club Bolivar of Bolivia, according to Fox News Latino and other outlets, who report that he has signed with them.
The 29-year-old Argentinian forward was with the club for a short time, starting 7 of 10 appearances and scoring 5 goals, including a hat trick in the final which was just enough to edge out the Ottawa Fury.
Head coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese had previously indicated the uncertainty of Cellerino’s return.
“We are still discussing, still talking,” said the coach. ” Reality right now we’re 50/50 potentially on him being here or not being here.”
He is now reported to have signed with Club Bolivar, a first-division side in La Paz, Bolivia and the most successful side in the country with 17 titles and an appearance in the Copa Libertadores semifinal, the farthest any team from the country has advanced.
This Is Cosmos Country has reached out to the club for for comment.
UPDATE: The Cosmos have confirmed that Gaston will not be with the club in 2016. Savarese said, “Gaston is a very good player who was contracted to us for the 2015 season. We wish him the very best for the future as he embarks on another adventure.”
