The New York Cosmos were back in training today, preparing for the rubber match of their season series with Rayo OKC. While most of the roster was in attendance for a high-paced session, there were a few additional attendees, and at least one notable absence.
After his time with the Sounders and Impact in 2015, Kenny Cooper made an appearance at the Cosmos training session today, looking very competitive, more so for someone without a club in 2016.
Also present was Andrea Mancini, youngest son of Roberto Mancini. The midfielder was signed by DC United back in March, but was on the Cosmos’ training ground this Thursday.
“We have a couple guys who are coming here, some trialists,” Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese told TICC. “We have Mancini from DC United. We have a couple other guys, Kenny Cooper. So, we’ll watch some of the players and we’ll make some decisions and we are also interested in other guys overseas.”
Opportunities continue to exist for Cosmos B players, according to Savarese.
“With the Cosmos B, we’ll also give some opportunities to some guys, depending on the day and so far, it’s been good.”
While Juan Arango and Hunter Freeman took things lightly today at practice, Savarese indicated that the players would be available for the weekend. The same might not hold true for Yohandry Orozco.
“Orozco might not [be available]. He’s still going through a little pain in his heel, so we’ll see if he recovers. Right now, he’s been training separated. But, it’s not something that should take so long and we’ll see if he recovers before this weekend.”
