After a lengthy absence, Roversio may make his first league appearance for New York this Saturday in their final match of the spring.
Sidelined by injury, Roversio was removed from the roster and his international spot was freed up for the signing of Niko Kranjčar. Since then, he’s been recovering. He made his first appearance just last week in the friendly against SD Eibar, but it looks like he may be ready to help win the spring title. His last match in the NASL was the 2015 NASL title game.
“Roversio is back, so he’ll be available for Saturday,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese told reporters after their Open Cup match win on Wednesday.
“He’s going to be available this weekend so finally he’s going to make the roster again. We feel he’s done what’s necessary in order to be in the best condition at the moment to be available. He’ll be traveling with us and that’s a positive sign to have Roversio back. We’re content after the work that he’s done to be able to be available.”
It is known that an unspecified player was working on attaining a green card, but with only seven international spots available on the squad and all of them occupied ( Kranjčar, Ayoze, Juan Arango, Yohandry Orozco, Yasmani Duk, Ruben Bover, David Ochieng), it remains unclear at this point in time just how the Cosmos will accommodate this change.
“We have to move some things on the roster and then it’ll open up the roster to have Roversio on Saturday,” said the coach.
When asked to clarify, the answer remained just as unclear. It’s uncertain what change will be made, but one thing is certain.
“We’re still moving the situation to make sure we have Roversio available on Saturday.”
