Yasmani Duk is reportedly the newest player to join the Cosmos this offseason. The 27-year-old striker may join on a one-year loan from Sport Boys of the Liga de Futbol Profesional Boliviano where he scored five times across 14 appearances.
Reports surfaced this morning from multiple outlets indicating the Bolivian had signed a deal with 2015 NASL champions and the player and his agent, Rodrigo Osorio, appeared in an interview today, part of which was visible on Periscope.
“I’m grateful to the people at Sport Boys; they helped make the move possible,” said Duk.
Duk also showed his appreciation for Oriente Petrolero, the team with whom he began his career in as a youth player in 2008 before joining the senior team in 2010 until 2012. He left for a season before returning in 2013 for another two seasons, and has expressed a desire to retire with them. In fact, according to his agent, “Oriente Petrolero will receive 50% of the money from this loan.”
Duk reportedly received several offers from several Argentine clubs, Bucaramanga of Colombia, and even Bolivar of Bolivia, where ex-Cosmos Gaston Cellerino recently signed.
“Bucaramanga offered me a contract,” said the striker. “But the New York Cosmos increased their offer to take me.”
In his previous two seasons with Oriente Petrolero, Duk scored 21 goals across 61 appearances. He has also made several appearances in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana and has been called up four times for Bolivian World Cup qualifiers, scoring a goal.
If the signing does occur, he would reinforce a Cosmos line-up that currently features only three forwards: Lucky Mkosana, David Diosa, and new signing Jairo Arrieta.
