Arango and Arrieta claim spots on NASL Team of the Week

The Cosmos kicked off the season with a 3-0 win over Ottawa and two of the boys in green made the NASL Team of the Week for Spring Week 1 of 2016, tying them with Carolina and Edmonton for most representatives on the team.

Juan Arango was named Player of the Week earlier on, assuring him a spot on the TotW. His two unanswered goals within minutes of each other leave him leading the league in goals despite relatively few touches throughout the match.

Jairo Arrieta was a workhorse throughout the game and facilitated the two goals, first by beating Ottawa defender Lance Rozeboom and then goalkeeper Romuald Peiser to the ball and sending a pass to an open Juan Arango with an empty net. On the second goal, Arrieta’s shot was pushed away by Peiser, landing at the feet of Arango, allowing him to find his second goal.

Other notables: Edmonton’s defensive efforts while a man down landed goalkeeper Matt Van Oekel and Papé Diakité spots on the team while a pair of fantastic goals for Tiyi Shipalane and Austin Da Luz gave them the win and earned them spots on this team.
