Flores, Menjivar, and Herrera receive El Salvador call ups, may miss season opener

With World Cup qualifiers and other international call-ups becoming second nature to Cosmos in 2016, it appears 2017 will bring much of the same.

On Saturday, the club announced that Andrés Flores, Richard Menjivar, and Irvin Herrera were called up by El Salvador for a pair of friendlies in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The trio were essential in gaining La Selecta a spot in the tournament, with Flores (wearing the captain’s armband) assisting on Herrera’s goal in a 1-0 win over Nicaragua to finish third in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana. New York Cosmos draw Bermuda, bring home Bermudian player

The New York Cosmos closed out their preseason with a 1-1 draw against the Bermudian National Team at the National Sports Centre on Sunday. While they did not take the win, they do return with a player to join New York Cosmos B. Continue reading

Flores, Herrera ready to bring El Salvador partnership to the New York Cosmos

The Cosmos have been busy this offseason, rebuilding a team that was released near the end of December. During the rebuild, they recovered Andres Flores and wound up signing two of his teammates from his national team: Irvin Herrera and Richard Menjivar. The New York Cosmos defeated the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2-0, securing a postseason spot for the fourth straight season and tying the record for consecutive unbeaten matches at home with 18.

Left back Ayoze was celebrated before the evening kicked off as he reached 100 appearances for New York.

The Cardiac Cosmos made another road appearance as they beat Puerto Rico FC 2-1, making the island the first location outside of New York and Miami that the Cosmos have logged a league win. The Cosmos came from behind to win in stoppage time for the second week in a row. Continue reading

Tests for Cosmos depth as four players receive call-ups
