Juan Guerra has only been with the New York Cosmos for the last two months, though he has been a part of a fierce rivalry with them, spending the last two years with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
However, In the short time that Juan Guerra has been with the Cosmos, he has fully embraced the club and its supporters, even making an appearance at the recent 5 Points fundraiser.
It would seem that, unsurprisingly to some, a big reason for this is none other than fellow Venezuelan Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese. And this is hardly the first time the coach has convinced Guerra to make the trip to Brooklyn.

On a media call Tuesday morning, the New York Cosmos introduced Rocco B. Commisso as their new majority owner, keeping the team from fading off the field for a second time in their history and potentially ushering it into a different direction.

What were some of the words this savior dropped in yesterday’s call when discussing the future of this team?
“I don’t know.”
“Let’s take one step at a time.”
While underwhelming to some, those words were indicative of a view that has not always been associated with this club: pragmatism. And while it’s still too early to tell, this approach may have been what was sorely needed by an organization in a tailspin. Continue reading

There’s no question that the Cosmos have been considered the flagship franchise of the NASL for some time. And it’s not a sentiment voiced exclusively by Cosmos fans as fans of other clubs around the league have often expressed the same opinion.
However, despite the shine of their storied past decades ago, three titles in the last four years, and signings that have included Raul and Marcos Senna, things have not come easy for the club with hiccups along the way.
This year, some of those distractions were evident on the field as well, but the Cosmos still found a way to stay focused on their quest for another title. Continue reading
