Flores, Menjivar, and Herrera receive El Salvador call ups, may miss season opener

With World Cup qualifiers and other international call-ups becoming second nature to Cosmos in 2016, it appears 2017 will bring much of the same.

On Saturday, the club announced that Andrés Flores, Richard Menjivar, and Irvin Herrera were called up by El Salvador for a pair of friendlies in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The trio were essential in gaining La Selecta a spot in the tournament, with Flores (wearing the captain’s armband) assisting on Herrera’s goal in a 1-0 win over Nicaragua to finish third in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana. Cosmos defeat Dominican Republic 5-1, continue undefeated preseason

On Sunday, the New York Cosmos defeated the Dominican Republic 5-1 to leave the island with a perfect record across their three-game tour. The goals for the Cosmos came off of a Javi Márquez penalty, Emmanuel Ledesma scissor kick, an Irvin Herrera brace, and a beautiful finale from Andrea Mancini. This was also a historic affair, with the Cosmos becoming the first American professional club to face the Dominican Republic’s National Team. Continue reading

Flores, Herrera ready to bring El Salvador partnership to the New York Cosmos

The Cosmos have been busy this offseason, rebuilding a team that was released near the end of December. During the rebuild, they recovered Andres Flores and wound up signing two of his teammates from his national team: Irvin Herrera and Richard Menjivar. Together, the three look to add an El Salvadorian flavor to the 2017 New York Cosmos. Continue reading

A new home wasn’t the only announcement the Cosmos had lined up for Thursday as they also announced the acquisition of El Salvadorian forward Irvin Herrera. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, as per club policy, the St. Louis FC website indicates the transaction is a loan from the USL club to the New York side. Continue reading
