“I didn’t like the situation in Granada…here we are content and happy” – Javi Marquez on the Cosmos

It’s arguable that Javi Marquez had a slow start to the year and struggled to make an impact in his first appearances as a Cosmos. While he initially seemed to vanish at the start of the season, his weight has been felt in his last few matches, both in overall chemistry with his teammates and in the two goals he scored in his last three games.

The midfielder came to New York looking for a new start after spending his entire career in the Spanish system, becoming yet another former Liga player to join the NASL club alongside names like Marcos Senna, Raul and Ayoze.

Cosmos blow lead in stoppage, draw on the road with Armada

The New York Cosmos took a 1-0 lead into stoppage time against the Jacksonville Armada after a Javi Marquez free kick put them ahead in the first half. However, a stoppage time strike from Armada midfielder Zach Steinberger would force a draw, keeping the Cosmos unbeaten on the road and Jacksonville unbeaten for the season. Continue reading

Cosmos defeat Dominican Republic 5-1, continue undefeated preseason

On Sunday, the New York Cosmos defeated the Dominican Republic 5-1 to leave the island with a perfect record across their three-game tour. The goals for the Cosmos came off of a Javi Márquez penalty, Emmanuel Ledesma scissor kick, an Irvin Herrera brace, and a beautiful finale from Andrea Mancini. This was also a historic affair, with the Cosmos becoming the first American professional club to face the Dominican Republic’s National Team. Continue reading

Cosmos bolster midfield, sign La Liga veteran Javi Márquez

Giovanni Savarese certainly wasn’t kidding at their open practice on Tuesday. On Friday, the Cosmos announced the signing of Catalonian midfielder Javi Márquez for the 2017 Spring Season.  Continue reading
