From the initial report of Cosmos in crisis by Empire of Soccer to today’s rumor of Carlos Slim being a potential buyer for the club, Cosmos fans do not know what to think.

After months of questions, the Cosmos continue to offer no answers as to the state of the club, their future home, season tickets, and what league they’ll play in with continued rumblings of the USL potentially landing Division Two status.

Match Preview: New York Cosmos and Indy Eleven battle for the title of NASL champion

The NASL Championship Final might not be contested in a venue befitting the crown jewel match of the American second division, but it will still be battled as if it were when the Indy Eleven arrive at Belson Stadium tomorrow.

With Indy getting the better of the Cosmos in the season series (2-0-1), the Cosmos will look to have the last laugh and the right to hoist the Soccer Bowl trophy.  Continue reading

NASL Championship brackets now set as Rayo wins final playoff spot

233178_2016-10-30_12-33-39Rayo OKC won the final playoff spot on Saturday night, despite the fact that their last regular season match would not kick off until Sunday. Requiring a win and a Rayo loss, Minnesota United instead lost their final NASL match against the Cosmos, granting the expansion side a spot at Shuart Stadium for the postseason match next weekend.

They’ll join FC Edmonton on the road as the Eddies travel to Indy. One thing both road teams have in common? Though they’ve both played a pair of tightly contested road matches this year, neither of them have won a game this year at the venue they’re traveling to.

The New York Cosmos remained undefeated at home, handing Miami FC a 4-0 drubbing behind goals from Jairo Arrieta, Juan Arango, a brace from Yohandry Orozco, and a shutout from Brian Holt. The win also set a Modern Era NASL record for an unbeaten streak at home with 19 games, breaking their previous record of 18.  Continue reading

Field of potential Cosmos postseason opponents could be narrowed tonight

12970302_10154247167656091_1053037460_oWith the penultimate games of the NASL season being played this weekend, the list of clubs fighting to stay in postseason contention could narrow considerably tonight, and it all hinges on the results of a pair of games.

At time of writing, Minnesota United, Rayo OKC, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, Miami FC and the Carolina RailHawks are still alive and in contention for the final postseason spot. The reward for the winner? A postseason showdown with New York at Shuart Stadium. Continue reading
