The Cosmos will look to duplicate the success of their spring opener when they beat the Ottawa side 3-0 behind a brace from Juan Arango and a strike from Adam Moffat. Aside from the Cosmos shutout of PDL side Jersey Express on Wednesday night, the league should be pleased by strong Third Round performances in the US Open Cup and Amway Canadian Championship.
After a night to forget in last year’s Open Cup with only the Cosmos and Silverbacks advancing and the rest of the league going 0-7 against USL opposition, the league saw all but the two expansion sides move on to the fourth round going 6-2 against the USL this year.
The Cosmos shut out the Ottawa Fury by a definitive score of 3-0 in the first rematch between the two clubs since the NASL Championship Final last November. While the win would push the Cosmos to the top of the table after Week 1, it also presented some questions on how the team would adapt to recent changes to the line-up.
