Cosmos set out to provide soccer field for Elmont’s youth

The New York Cosmos and their official charity partner, Street Soccer USA, have partnered with Sponsorise.me to create a mini soccer field out of an underused basketball court in the Elmont area.

With delays to a decision on their proposal for a new home in the same area, the Cosmos will work on another initiative in the same community. It’s a different from the stadium that Cosmos fans have eagerly awaited, but will still be of importance for the neighborhood they hope to someday call home.

After the field is built, local youth will be able to participate in free soccer programs run by Street Soccer USA.

“Here at the New York Cosmos, we understand the power of sport and the impact it can have in young people’s lives,” commented Cosmos COO Erik Stover.

The project, Sponsorise.me’s first in New York area also has the support of the Elmont Union Free School District.

“The diversity and commitment of the New York Cosmos organization is representative of our community’s diversity. We are committed to improving the quality of life of Elmont’s children. Thus, the partnership with Street Soccer USA will provide another safe environment for our children where they can participate in the world’s most recognized sport, soccer. This will provide them with an opportunity to become physically fit and further develop their social skils,” said Elmont Union Free School District Board President, Michael A. Jaime.

At time of writing, $40,000 of the targeted $98,700 have been collected. Supporters of this project can make donations here.
