NEW YORK  – The New York Cosmos announced today that the club has reached agreement for its home games to be aired in high definition on ONE World Sports during the 2013 NASL Fall Season.

“We’re excited to be able to put our games on air and increase the viewing options for our fans,” Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover said.

Cosmos programming will kick off on Aug. 3 when the Cosmos host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium. The on-air team for Cosmos telecasts will consist of play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera and former Cosmos’ goalkeeper Shep Messing as color analyst. The ONE World Sports network is available on DISH, Cablevision’s Optimum TV and Mediacom.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the historic New York Cosmos club to viewers of ONE World Sports,” said Alexander “Sandy” Brown, President and CEO of ONE World Sports. “Our goal is to provide viewers a very unique perspective into the action on the pitch with an enhanced state of the art production.”

The club remains in discussion with various potential broadcast partners, including ONE World Sports for distribution of its road games.

The team yesterday released single-game tickets for their home opener at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium. Seats are now available via www.nycosmos.com and by calling 855-71-COSMOS. Individual tickets start as low as $15. The Cosmos will face their historic rivals, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, in the opener on Aug. 3. Prior to kickoff, the Cosmos will honor legends from their past in a special on-field ceremony.

About the Cosmos
The Cosmos began play in 1971, spending 14 seasons in the North American Soccer League, winning five Soccer Bowl trophies and bringing some of the biggest names in world soccer to the USA. This included Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinaglia and Carlos Alberto.

It’s been nearly 30 years since the Cosmos, an iconic global soccer club, have played in a professional league. Yet throughout their absence, the club has maintained a loyal and dedicated fan following.

On July 12, 2012, it was announced that the New York Cosmos will return to the NASL, beginning play at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium. The Cosmos first game is Aug. 3, 2013 at 7 p.m. against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Tickets are available at www.nycosmos.com and by dialing 855-71-COSMOS.

The Cosmos also recently submitted a privately-funded economic development proposal to the State of New York to build a world-class 25,000-seat professional soccer stadium at Belmont Park. More information about the proposal and renderings can be found at www.newcosmosstadium.com.

  1. Los New York Cosmos andan con todo, van a mandar en la NASL. I believe Cosmos will be at the level of a mid to low table team from MLS. Good luck to Red Bull and MLS teams when they meet in the Open Cup. For now, dale dale dale dale Cosmos, dale dale dale dale Cosmos, daaaaaale gooooool. A famous mexican and south american soccer chant.

  2. With the new NY CITY FC rivalry, I hope one of you’re chants will be;

‘Hello Hello we are the Borough Boys
Hello Hello we are the Borough Boys
and if you are a City fan surrender or you’ll die
Cause we all follow the COSMOS’

  3. And shortened version of New York, New York with fans singing the tune

Da da dada da da, da da dada da da da, da da dada da da
If we can make it there, we’ll make it anywhere, it’s up to you New York, New York

Also hope ‘Bridge over troubled water’ will become the ‘You’ll never walk Alone’ for Cosmos, pre-kickoff with scarfs raised.
