Thoughts about Marcos Senna Press Conference

New York, NY - On Monday, the New York Cosmos held a Press Conference introducing their newest defender, Marcos Senna. With the event taking place at the Crosby Street Hotel over in SoHo, journalists of all ages and levels of experience, were introduced to the former Villarreal player.

So, what did I learn? Senna arrived to New York on Saturday. Contractually, he’s signed to a year and a half contract with the club. At the time of our conversation, he hadn’t met his teammates. However, Senna is happy to be with the Cosmos because of it’s history. Under the same breath, he admitted that he knows little about the North American Soccer League.

Physically, Senna’s knees are as healthy as a young lion (his words). Socially, he’s a footballer who is aware of the current events in Brazil. However, he prefers to solely focus on the game. Last, he’s a nice guy and you’ll have an opportunity to meet him this Wednesday during the Cosmos open practice over at Hofstra. That’s about it… or is it?

Time will tell how he and his family adjust to life in the United States. Time will tell how well he blends with his teammates. Time will also reveal how physically fit he really is for the upcoming NASL Fall Championship season. Time will ultimately reveal whether or not Senna is adored by the supporters.

I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry… timeout. I’m only interested in the home opener against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. As much as I enjoyed interacting with Senna, seeing him perform with his teammates is the bigger story. Let’s have some fun while I take this article to an uncharted territory.

To be honest, the only thing interesting and worthwhile about Monday’s press conference were the journalists in attendance. From the knowledgeable & seasoned to the inexperienced clueless, it was a tragically beautiful sight to observe. At the end of the day, we’re there for the same story which we wish to express from a creatively different angle.

Questions to ask, photos to take and videos to post throughout our social media outlets in hopes that another individual or faux account follows us on Twitter. Just another day at the office, right?

  1. He admits he knows little about the NASL? What did he sign a contract for? Hope he’s not disappointed.
