2010 US OPEN CUP QUALIFICATION

It is not a mistake! Qualification is in progress for the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. For those who are not aware, this is our version of the FA Cup and dates back all the way to 1914. Any club officially affiliated with the USSF is able to participate.

The New York Pancyprian-Freedoms, a club based out of Astoria, has reached the Eastern NY final. The Freedom play their league games in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, which has been supplying the Metropolitan Area with soccer since 1923. They still await their opponent for the Final and we will post the game date and venue as soon as it becomes available.

MLS CUP WEEKEND THOUGHTS

The biggest game on our domestic calendar was this past Sunday as Real Salt Lake upset the Los Angeles Galaxy to become MLS champions. I am not here to give you the tactical or play-by-play breakdown, as there are many sites that can do that for you; instead, I will touch on a few things for the NYC soccer fan to be aware of!

A LETTER TO PAUL KEMSLEY

Mr. Kemsley,

You don’t know us, you probably never heard of us and until recently, we had no reason to reach out to you. Now we do! Your recent purchase of the NEW YORK COSMOS brand has raised both eyebrows and questions around the world, but more importantly it has also raised the hopes of soccer fans all around New York City. We have all seen the plans for the traveling squad of all stars, and that is all well and good, but we are writing to you today to let you know that, IF, you wanted to give that team a dedicated home, New York City is the ONLY place you should think of.

Beckham to invest in NYC Soccer?

Love him or hate him, David Beckham is a Soccer icon! At 34, you have to wonder just what he plans to do with his fame and fortune. While many people think he is not dedicated to his promise of helping soccer in this country it’s being reported in the UK seems that Mr. David Beckham might just be interested in putting his money where his mouth is and lending some of his considerable wealth and prestige to owning a Major League Soccer franchise (hey some of the stuff comes true). All this begs a question that we think about every day at Getstuckin.com - if Beckham invested in MLS, what city would he want to do it in?

Willets Point: By Air, Land or Sea… No, really!

If you have read all the stories on this blog you are probably saying to yourself ‘Wow, they are fixated on Willets Point!’ You are right. And here is why it would make the ideal location for the World’s Game!

If there is going to be a second MLS team in the area, and the first in New York City proper, then the key element to any stadium has to be location. Obviously you want to put the team within the city limits to give it that true New York City stature, but there are far more important elements than just that and Willets Point tackles all those elements.

NYC SOCCER SCENE

Interest in the US Men's National team is growing in this country, as it should!!! The Borough Boys have made Jack Demseys the headquarters for their USA Support. If you have yet to come watch a game in the Midtown pub, here is a video from this past Summer. It was taken just in time to catch the USA score its second goal in the Confederations Cup Final vs. Brazil.

Jack Demseys is located at 36 West 33rd Street, New York, NY 10001.
