The Beckham Factor: Would he consider NYC?

If you have been following the Borough Boys movement, I’m sure you know how big a player David Beckham could be in the future of a Major League Soccer franchise in New York City. For those of you who are just learning of us, here’s a bit of a recap:

-
January 11, 2007: it was confirmed that David Beckham would join the Los Angeles Galaxy as MLS’s first designated player. Soon after this, speculation began that within Beckham’s contract it stated that he would have the option to own an MLS franchise once he retires

USA World Cup Bid - INVITE FIVE

While certain that I am not the only one who got an email like this today, I feel it is very important to soccer not only in New York City but in the United States.

Go to the USA Bid Committee's website and invite five of your friends to join the movement, and then have them invite five of their friends. We need every advantage possible to win the World Cup, and public opinion does matter.

A few years ago this video found its way around the web and soccer fans all over New York City got fired up. This video most likely was just a trial balloon. This video combined with a report in the New York times started a movement to bring another club to New York City.

New York will be in World Cup bid

Today the World Cup Bid Committee announced the cities that will be part of its official bid for the World Cup and New York was on that list. This comes as no surprise as New York did host a game in the 1994 World Cup at Giants Stadium, and with a brand new world class facility at the Meadowlands, it was hard to imagine they would keep New York City out of the equation this time around.

This is great news for the City of New York as well as the northern part of New Jersey because if the USA is selected to host the tournament, tourism dollars will be pouring into the areas economy. No news yet over what city will host the final, but one can hope!
